Possible Dangers From Your Office
Most poeple pay more attention to their financial status rather than in their healthcondition. Most of big corporations also pay more attention in their company's overall production rather than their workers' health. It is time for you to take a good look at the risks you are up against if you don't take care of yourself in a typical workplace.
Health risks
Most of people don't realize that the health risks from sitting at the computer all day. People believe sitting doesn't involve any work which is true in your boss's eyes. However, our body is not designed for any prolonged inactive sitting. It is designed for flexibilty and movement. When sitting, our muscule and spine are required a lot of efforts to hold the trunk, the neck and shoulders in certain position. Below are some health risks involved:
1. Eye strain from computer work
Dry or watery eyes will happen if you have to constantly staring at the monitor. Other eye strains include soreness, burning or itchy eyes, blurred or double vision and headaches. It is rather uncomfortable. You need to take frequent breaks to avoid any long-term consequences.
It will be helpful to put some pleasant pictures right next to or behind your monitor. You can move your eyes away from your monitor and give your eyes a rest by focusing on them periodically. It is also recommended that you sit back and close your eyes for a few minutes. Do not stare on the monitor without blinking. Blinking actually lubricates your eye.
Your monitor needs to be at least at arm's length. Make sure the center of the screen is at or below eye level when you sit comfortably. Your eyes should not have to strain to look up or down. Make sure your screen is glare-free. Clean the monitor to make sure there is no dust for dust does contribute to glare and reflection problems. Adjust the contrast and brightness at your comfort. Have adequate lighting.
2. Poor posture
The efforts hold up your body in the office chairs will become un-necessary load that cause muscle stress or spasm. Poor posture brings poor alignment of the head, neck, shoulder and back. When a part of the body is moved, our posture changes with it. Whether at work or rest proper back posture is a balance of our bones and muscles working together to support and prevent injury to our body. Bad posture like slouch in office chairs generally causes increased stress on the joints and muscles and causes other symptoms which can lead to potential damage and changes to the surrounding tissues.
Our body operates like a machine that is linked together by its parts. When there is a problem with one of its parts the entire body tries to compensate for this particular problem. The key is you need to support your back. The backrest should fit the natural curve of your lower back. Your feet should be planted firmly on the floor or comfortably on a footrest. Keep a comfortable shoulder and arm posture. Avoid slouching. Keep your wrists straight and avoid any strained up, down or side way movements.
3. Poor body circulations
Inactive sitting strains your body in a fix position. Over time, the blood flow is blocked or sluggish that keeps the vital nutrients from going to your lumbar area. Lack of nutrients in the lumbar area is what causes most of sitting population's back pain. Because prolonged hour of sitting is causing fatigue in your limbs, painful leg cramps or blood clots.
Geting up and moving around or going for a 30 minute walk will take the strain off your back and get the blood flow going. It is wise to do some light exercises or stretches for your arms, shoulders, neck, back and legs during your break. Remember to also take some deep breaths to encourage body cireculations.
4. Eating disorder: Forgetting to eat or eating too much
It is very easy to forget to eat while concentrating on the computer. For many people, time just flies. And people got weak by skipping those important meals. Lack of energy will not carry you out throughout the workday. Make sure to take water break from the computer. We all need to drink lots of water to keep hydrated which people tend to ignore.
Some people can't stop eating while working on computer and they need something to munch on. They end up eating a lot more than what their body burns out especially when sitting in the office chairs. By adding extra unwanted pounds to the waistline, it eventually takes the toll out of the back. Back pain, shoulders pain crepe in before you know it. It is a vicious cycle. Make sure to eat your meals away from the computer.
